Sourcing Rhizobium leguminosarum biovar viciae strains from Mediterranean centres of origin to optimize nitrogen fixation in forage legumes grown on acid soils

Ron J. Yates et al.

Summary: The study aims to improve the nitrogen fixation ability of the symbiotic system between legumes and rhizobia in low pH, infertile soils. By evaluating different strains on nitrogen fixation in field peas, common vetch, and hairy vetch, as well as their survival rate in acidic soil, it was found that some strains showed higher nitrogen fixation efficiency and stronger saprophytic competence.
