Exogenous salicylic acid regulates cell wall polysaccharides synthesis and pectin methylation to reduce Cd accumulation of tomato

HongLei Jia et al.

Summary: The study showed that pre-treatment with salicylic acid significantly reduced cadmium accumulation in tomato plants and altered cadmium distribution. Salicylic acid induced the composition of the cell wall, increasing cellulose, hemicellulose, pectin, and lignin content, and up-regulated the expression of lignin and cellulose synthase genes while down-regulating pectin methylesterase related genes. Additionally, salicylic acid decreased pectin methylesterase activity to reduce cadmium accumulation in the cell wall and change cadmium partition ratio.

Rhizosphere iron and manganese-oxidizing bacteria stimulate root iron plaque formation and regulate Cd uptake of rice plants (Oryza sativa L.)

Ting Wei et al.

Summary: The study found that bacterial inoculation stimulates the formation of iron plaque on the root surface of rice plants and has an impact on the elemental content of the plaque, plant growth, and cadmium content. In particular, inoculation with YGL bacteria can help reduce the cadmium content in rice grains.

Synergistic effect of silicon and selenium on the alleviation of cadmium toxicity in rice plants

Hengliang Huang et al.

Summary: Silicon and selenium can effectively alleviate cadmium toxicity in rice plants, with a strong synergistic effect when used together. Their interaction mainly occurs through regulating gene expression, sequestering Cd in root cell walls and organelles, and reducing Cd transfer to shoots.

Cadmium toxicity in Salvia sclarea L.: An integrative response of element uptake, oxidative stress markers, leaf structure and photosynthesis

Anelia G. Dobrikova et al.

Summary: This study investigated the integrative responses of Salvia sclarea plants exposed to high cadmium supply, revealing that plants employ multiple mechanisms to protect the function of the photosynthetic apparatus, including increased phenolic and anthocyanin contents, enhanced non-photochemical quenching, and accelerated cyclic electron transport around photosystem I.

Study of soil microorganisms modified wheat straw and biochar for reducing cadmium leaching potential and bioavailability

Haris Muhammad et al.

Summary: This study investigated the dynamic effects and potential mechanisms of wheat-straw, wheat-straw biochar, and biologically modified wheat-straw on the adsorption, leaching behavior, chemical fractions, and bioavailability of cadmium. The research revealed that biologically modified wheat-straw had the highest biosorption capacity for Cd and significantly reduced Cd concentration in leachate compared to wheat-straw biochar and wheat-straw treatments. These findings suggest a novel approach for the development of functional materials and strategies for eco-friendly and sustainable trace metal remediation in contaminated soil and water.
