Decoupling of provincial energy-related CO2 emissions from economic growth in China and its convergence from 1995 to 2017

Chaochao Gao et al.

Summary: This study examines the decoupling status of provincial carbon emissions from economic development in China, finding weak decoupling mainly driven by capital investment and total factor productivity. During the study period, emissions-economy decoupling primarily depended on the decoupling of economic activities from energy consumption. While there is substantial variation in provincial emissions and driving forces, the overall trend suggests a convergence towards coherent low-carbon progress.

Assessing market efficiency and liquidity: Evidence from China's emissions trading scheme pilots

Ruirui Wu et al.

Summary: The study on China's five emissions trading system pilots revealed that Shenzhen pilot performed the best in market efficiency, followed by Beijing with improved market efficiency, and Hubei with the lowest market efficiency. There is a positive long-term equilibrium relationship between market efficiency and market liquidity of pilots, and market liquidity can positively affect the market efficiency of pilots lasting three months.

Did carbon trade improve green production performance? Evidence from China

Lisha Yang et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of China's pilot carbon-emission Trading Scheme (ETS) on green production performance (GPP), finding that the pilot ETS significantly improved GPP by approximately 10%. However, the impact of the pilot ETS on GPP decreased after 2013 due to low carbon prices in the pilot markets.
