Enhancement of Nitrous Oxide Emissions in Soil Microbial Consortia via Copper Competition between Proteobacterial Methanotrophs and Denitrifiers

Summary: The use of methanobactin, a polypeptide that binds copper with high affinity, significantly increases N2O production in rice paddy soil, especially in soils with lower copper content. Additionally, the interaction between methanotrophs and denitrifiers mediated by methanobactin enhances N2O emissions, with a greater impact observed in Methylocystaceae-dominant enrichments.
