Bi-directional thermal buckling and resonance frequency characteristics of a GNP-reinforced composite nanostructure

Jing Li et al.

Summary: This article presents the thermal buckling and resonance frequency of a composite cylindrical nanoshell reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets under bi-directional thermal loading. The study assumes that the temperature-dependent material properties of the composite are graded in the thickness direction of the nanoshell and uses a nanomechanical model to approximate the effective material properties of each layer. The analysis is conducted using a modified couple stress parameter and shows that bi-directional thermal buckling occurs when the relative frequency change approaches 30%. The study is novel in considering the effects of bi-directional thermal loading on the properties of the nanoshell and provides useful insights for the design of materials science and micro- and nano-mechanical systems.

A comprehensive computational approach for nonlinear thermal instability of the electrically FG-GPLRC disk based on GDQ method

M. S. H. Al-Furjan et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the buckling temperature and post-buckling analysis of a functionally graded graphene nanoplatelet-reinforced composite (FG-GPLRC) disk surrounded by a nonlinear elastic foundation and covered with a piezoelectric actuator. The results demonstrate the significant impact of various factors such as radius ratio, GPLs parameters, elastic foundation, applied voltage, and piezoelectric thickness on the thermal post-buckling response of the FG-GPLRC disk. Additionally, the presence of the elastic foundation appears to induce a sinusoidal effect on the post-buckling behavior of the disk.

Frequency characteristics of a viscoelastic graphene nanoplatelet-reinforced composite circular microplate

Aria Ghabussi et al.

Summary: This study examines the frequency analysis of a graphene nanoplatelet composite circular microplate using a numerical-based generalized differential quadrature method. It finds that factors such as the outer to inner radius ratio, length scale and nonlocal to thickness ratios, and graphene nanoplatelet weight fraction significantly influence the frequency characteristics of the microplate. The research suggests that for designing such microplates, attention should be paid to factors like outer to inner radius ratio, graphene nanoplatelet weight fraction, and their interplay.
