Relationships and portfolios between oil and Chinese stock sectors: A study based on wavelet denoising-higher moments perspective

Pengfei Zhu et al.

Summary: By using the wavelet denoising-higher moment approach, the study examines the relationships and portfolios between oil and Chinese stock sectors, proposing the wavelet denoising-GARCHSK and wavelet denoising-GARCHSK-Copula portfolio methods. The empirical results reveal industry characteristics in the oil-stock relationships, different tail dependencies between Chinese stock sectors and SC, and the superior performance of oil-stock portfolios obtained through the wavelet denoising-GARCHSK-Copula model.

The international spread of COVID-19 stock market collapses

Silvio Contessi et al.

Summary: During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, we observed periods of mildly explosive dynamics and collapses in the stock markets of 18 major countries. Statistical evidence shows instability transmission from the Chinese stock market to all other markets. The recovery process is heterogeneous and generally non-explosive.

Are industry-level indicators more helpful to forecast industrial stock volatility? Evidence from Chinese manufacturing purchasing managers index

Yu Wei et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the role of industry-level indicators in industrial stock volatility, focusing on the Chinese manufacturing purchasing managers index (PMI) and its components. The study finds that PMI has a significant negative impact on industrial stock volatility, and is more useful in forecasting volatility compared to macroeconomic fundamentals and economic policy uncertainty. Additionally, combining GARCH-MIDAS models based on DMA technique outperforms individual models in predictive abilities.
