The microstructures of kaolinite suspensions from the Clay Mineral Society were found to be affected by ice crystal formation, and high pressure treatment and rapid freezing were used to prevent this artifact and provide accurate microstructures.
The microstructures of the Clay Mineral Society?s kaolinite KGa-1b and KGa-2 suspensions obtained by cryo-SEM imaging published in ?Au et al. Colloids and Surfaces A: Physicochem. Eng. Aspects, 484 (2015) 354- 364? [1] are now believed to be affected by ice crystals formation. This short communication will provide the artefact-free microstructures. To prevent hexagonal ice-crystal formation, the suspension samples for microstructure cryoSEM imaging were subjected to high pressure of up to 2000 bars and then freezing at a rapid rate of 25,000 ?C s- 1.
