Projected changes to severe thunderstorm environments as a result of twenty-first century warming from RegCM CORDEX-CORE simulations

Russell H. Glazer et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of climate change on severe thunderstorms and finds that as temperatures rise, environments supportive for severe thunderstorms are projected to increase globally. The increase in Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE) and vertical wind-shear during severe seasons in various regions like North America, subtropical South America, and eastern India and Bangladesh suggests that climate warming is driving a robust increase in severe potential.

The CORDEX Flagship Pilot Study in southeastern South America: a comparative study of statistical and dynamical downscaling models in simulating daily extreme precipitation events

Summary: This research presents preliminary results of statistical and dynamical simulations within the FPS-SESA framework. The aim is to study multi-scale processes most conducive to extreme precipitation events. Four dynamical and four statistical downscaling models were used in the experiment, showing varying performance in simulating daily precipitation features.

Recent intensification of extreme precipitation events in the La Plata Basin in Southern South America (1981-2018)

Wilmar L. Ceron et al.

Summary: The study analyzed changes and trends in extreme daily rainfall indices in the La Plata Basin during 1981-2018. It found a breaking point in the extreme precipitation indices in the southern LPB in 1999, leading to an increase in R10mm and a decrease in CDD. Positive correlations were observed between sea surface temperature in the Southwestern Subtropical Atlantic Region and R10mm in the LPB.
