Elucidation of the photocatalytic degradation mechanism of an azo dye under visible light in the presence of cobalt doped TiO2 nanomaterials

Abderrahim El Mragui et al.

Summary: The synthesis of Co-TiO2 nanoparticles was successfully achieved using sol-gel and precipitation methods, with the physicochemical properties being heavily dependent on the weight percent of Co added. Among the synthesized materials, 1%Co-TiO2 showed the best photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange under visible light due to efficient charge separation. Active species such as O-2(center dot-), h(+), and OH center dot were identified in the degradation pathway of MO dye.

Morphology control of 3D hierarchical urchin-like hollow SiO2@TiO2 spheres for photocatalytic degradation: Influence of calcination temperature

Yan Bao et al.

Summary: A novel 3D hierarchical urchin-like SiO2@TiO2 sphere with hollow structure and anatase-rutile biphase was synthesized via solvothermal process, and the effects of calcination temperature on its photocatalytic activity were systematically studied. The 3D-UHSTs prepared at a calcination temperature of 700 degrees C exhibited higher photocatalytic activity due to electron transfer and reduced electron/hole recombination. The photocatalytic degradation of RhB followed first-order reaction kinetics, with a rate constant of 0.04654 min(-1).
