Human erythroid differentiation requires VDAC1-mediated mitochondrial clearance

Martina Moras et al.

Summary: This study reveals that VDAC1 protein plays a crucial role in human erythroblast terminal differentiation by regulating mitochondrial clearance. Downregulation of VDAC1 accelerates erythroblast maturation but leads to decreased enucleation and increased cell death.
