A synergy of the velocity gradients technique and the probability density functions for identifying gravitational collapse in self-absorbing media

Yue Hu et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of self-absorption on VGT and intensity PDFs using synthetic emission lines of CO isotopologues. It confirms that VGT performance is insensitive to radiative transfer effects and shows a change in intensity PDFs' shape due to self-absorption. The results indicate the potential for constructing 3D magnetic fields tomography through VGT and highlight the impact of self-absorption on the reliability of intensity PDFs in identifying gravitational collapsing regions.

Measuring Magnetization with Rotation Measures and Velocity Centroids in Supersonic MHD Turbulence

Siyao Xu et al.

Summary: Interstellar turbulence is magnetized and anisotropic. By selectively sampling low-density regions in highly supersonic magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence, the anisotropy of rotation measures (RMs) and velocity centroids (VCs) can be measured to provide valuable information on the magnetic fields. This new method offers a way to measure plane-of-the-sky magnetic fields in cold interstellar phases.

Anisotropies in Compressible MHD Turbulence: Probing Magnetic Fields and Measuring Magnetization

Yue Hu et al.

Summary: Probing magnetic fields in the interstellar medium is challenging, but the Structure Function Analysis (SFA) can be used to estimate magnetic-field orientation and strength. In sub-Alfvenic turbulence, the anisotropic structure functions of turbulent velocities measured in different directions can provide valuable information about the magnetic fields.
