High-contrast and resolution near-infrared photometry of the core of R136

Zeinab Khorrami et al.

Summary: Through the use of extreme adaptive optics on the ESO Very Large Telescope, a detailed near-infrared photometric analysis of the core of R136 in the Large Magellanic Cloud was conducted, revealing a large number of sources and allowing for a better sampling of the mass function. By comparing data from different epochs, it was found that the majority of sources in the outer region are associated with ongoing star formation within the star-forming region, and not with R136.
