A data-driven prediction approach for sports team performance and its application to National Basketball Association

Yongjun Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a performance prediction approach for sports teams based on DEA methodology and data-driven techniques. The approach includes two steps: multivariate logistic regression analysis to examine the relationship between winning probability and game outcomes at the team-level, and DEA-based player portfolio efficiency analysis to optimally choose players and plan playing time. Through experiments on NBA data, it shows that the DEA-based data-driven approach can predict sports team performance well and provide insights into performance prediction.

Allocating a fixed cost across decision making units with explicitly considering efficiency rankings

Feng Li et al.

Summary: Fixed cost allocation based on efficiency ranking is proposed in this paper, aiming to determine the best efficiency ranking for each DMU simultaneously. A new comprehensive satisfaction degree is defined and an iterative procedure is used to maximize satisfaction degree across all DMUs. The approach is applied to illustrate its usefulness and efficacy in a classic numerical example and an empirical study.

Performance evaluation of two-stage network structures with fixed-sum outputs: An application to the 2018winter Olympic Games

Yongjun Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a two-stage DEA approach for decision-making units with fixed-sum final outputs, using data from the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games as a case study. The results indicate that countries with high latitudes and developed economies have higher efficiency, and the efficiency of the overall Olympic process is more correlated with competition stage efficiency.

Efficiency intervals, rank intervals and dominance relations of decision-making units with fixed-sum outputs

Lifan Chen et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the evaluation of decision-making units (DMUs) with fixed-sum outputs in data envelopment analysis (DEA). The challenges include determining a common efficient frontier and dealing with multiple feasible efficient frontiers. By considering all feasible efficient frontiers, the paper develops models to obtain efficiency intervals, ranking intervals, and dominance relations for DMUs with fixed-sum outputs, leading to more informative results compared to previous DEA approaches.
