Longitudinal Dynamics of the Neutralizing Antibody Response to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) Infection

Kai Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that specific neutralizing antibody titers against SARS-CoV-2 in patients with COVID-19 were initially low in the first 7-10 days after symptom onset, then gradually increased and peaked at 2-3 weeks. The titers of neutralizing antibodies and IgG levels showed a positive correlation over time, and were also significantly correlated with levels of proinflammatory cytokines.

Summary: COVID-19 has spread worldwide, with a significant number of cases reported by the National Health Commission of China as of June 25, 2020. Joint detection of nucleic acids and antibodies has become a key diagnostic method, yet there is limited research on the different infection stages. A retrospective analysis exploring the clinical characteristics of COVID-19 patients at different stages could provide crucial theoretical basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Changes in serum virus-specific IgM/IgG antibody in asymptomatic and discharged patients with reoccurring positive COVID-19 nucleic acid test (RPNAT)

Junli Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the IgM/IgG changes in asymptomatic and RPNAT patients, with results showing that serum SARS-CoV-2 specific IgM/IgG antibody levels remained low during hospitalization for asymptomatic patients. Elevated IgM levels at discharge may help identify patients with reoccurring positive nucleic acid tests.

Summary: In this study, it was found that anti-nucleocapsid antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 decline within a few months, with higher titers associated with longer duration. On the other hand, anti-spike IgG remained stably detected. Factors such as age, ethnicity, and symptom presentation also had an impact on antibody levels.

Summary: In a longitudinal study of seropositive and seronegative health care workers undergoing asymptomatic and symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 testing, the presence of anti-spike or anti-nucleocapsid IgG antibodies was associated with a substantially reduced risk of SARS-CoV-2 reinfection in the ensuing 6 months.

Summary: The study showed that the positive rates of anti-S IgG and IgM were higher in recovered COVID-19 patients compared to in-patients, with more humoral responses targeting CTD-S1 fragments. Early serological screening is less significant as anti-S IgG and IgM do not appear at the onset with decreased T cells.

Lack of Antibodies to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in a Large Cohort of Previously Infected Persons

Lyle R. Petersen et al.

Summary: A study found that approximately 1 in 16 individuals previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 lacked IgG antibodies. The absence of antibodies was influenced by illness severity, race/ethnicity, obesity, and immunosuppressive drug therapy, and the seronegative proportion remained relatively stable within 90 days post symptom onset.

IgG Seroconversion and Pathophysiology in Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Infection

Summary: The study showed that in SARS-CoV-2 infection, 2.0%-8.5% of individuals did not seroconvert 3-6 weeks after infection. Those who did seroconvert were typically older, more likely to have concurrent conditions, and had higher levels of inflammatory markers. Non-White individuals had higher antibody concentrations compared to White individuals, and these concentrations remained stable during follow-up.
