The energy landscape governs ductility in disordered materials

Longwen Tang et al.

Summary: Structural disorder in non-crystalline materials increases ductility. The propensity for ductility is controlled by the topography of the energy landscape, and there is a power-law relationship between particle non-affine displacement upon fracture and the average local energy barrier.
