Possibilities and impossibilities of magnetic nanoparticle use in the control of infectious biofilms

Kecheng Quan et al.

Summary: Magnetic nanocarriers are promising for targeted delivery of chemotherapeutics to tumor sites and for infection control. They can be loaded with antimicrobials or modified to acquire intrinsic antimicrobial properties, and can be used for local heat generation to kill infectious microorganisms. However, challenges remain in achieving precise targeting and distribution of magnetic nanoparticles for infection control.

A biodegradable antibacterial alginate/carboxymethyl chitosan/Kangfuxin sponges for promoting blood coagulation and full-thickness wound healing

Yun He et al.

Summary: The development of multifunctional composite sponges incorporating traditional Chinese medicine Kangfuxin into alginate/carboxymethyl chitosan shows great potential for promoting wound healing, with properties such as suitable water vapor transmittance, antibacterial behavior, cytocompatibility, and rapid hemostasis. In a rat full-thickness wounds model, the composite sponge significantly facilitates wound closure compared to conventional wound dressings.
