Enhanced Production of Photosynthetic Pigments and Various Metabolites and Lipids in the Cyanobacteria Synechocystis sp. PCC 7338 Culture in the Presence of Exogenous Glucose

Photosynthetic pigment production and metabolic and lipidomic alterations in the marine cyanobacteria Synechocystis sp. PCC 7338 under various salinity conditions

Summary: The study investigated the effects of different NaCl concentrations on Synechocystis 7338, a marine cyanobacterium with potential for producing photosynthetic pigments. Results showed that the highest production of chlorophyll a, allophycocyanin, and phycoerythrin occurred under 1.2 M NaCl conditions. Metabolic and lipidomic profiles were altered, and photosynthetic activity recovered under high salinity conditions. Increased hydrogen peroxide content and glutathione levels were observed, indicating adaptation of Synechocystis 7338 to high salt environments for enhanced production of bioactive metabolites.
