A comparison of the location in membranes of curcumin and curcumin-derived bivalent compounds with potential neuroprotective capacity for Alzheimer's disease

Alessio Ausili et al.

Summary: Curcumin and two bivalent compounds were studied for their solubility and positioning in model membranes, suggesting that the curcumin moiety may be located near the polar part of the membrane. Molecular dynamics studies further supported this notion, indicating a potential role for the membrane anchorage of the bivalent compounds in facilitating the bioactivity of curcumin as anti-Alzheimer drugs.
