A heterogeneous analysis of the nexus between energy consumption, economic growth and carbon emissions: Evidence from the Group of Twenty (G20) countries

Kaodui Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship among economic growth, energy consumption and carbon emissions in G20 countries from 1992 to 2014, revealing that economic growth and energy consumption promote carbon emissions, while foreign direct investments drive CO2 emissions. The findings also suggest bidirectional or unidirectional causality among these factors. The study emphasizes the importance of helping countries formulate environmental policies to reduce reliance on environmentally harmful energy sources and promote the use of clean energies.

The connection between urbanization and carbon emissions: a panel evidence from West Africa

Mohammed Musah et al.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between urbanization and carbon emissions in West Africa using second-generation econometric techniques. The results showed that urbanization, economic growth, and renewable energy consumption all have significant impacts on CO2 emissions. Causal connections among these variables were explored through panel causality tests, with varying results across different panels. Policy recommendations based on these findings were further discussed.

Predictors of carbon emissions: an empirical evidence from NAFTA countries

Mohammed Musah et al.

Summary: This study examined the predictors of carbon emissions in member countries of the NAFTA using panel models and found that GDP is a significant positive predictor of CO2 emissions, while FDI and population growth have trivial effects. The findings varied among individual countries, and there was no causality between GDP and CO2 emissions, nor between population growth and CO2 emissions.

On the nonlinear relationship between energy use and CO2 emissions within an EKC framework: Evidence from panel smooth transition regression in the MENA region

Nidhaleddine Ben Cheikh et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new approach for analyzing the dynamic relationships between CO2 emissions, energy use, and income in the Middle East and North African region using a nonlinear panel smooth transition regression framework. The empirical findings show that pollutant emissions respond nonlinearly to energy consumption and GDP growth. The study reveals an inverted U-shaped pattern for the impact of energy on CO2 emissions and highlights that GDP growth significantly impacts carbon emissions only for higher energy consumption growth.
