Multi-scale characterization of unconventional tight carbonate reservoir: Insights from October oil filed, Gulf of Suez rift basin, Egypt

Ahmed E. Radwan et al.

Summary: The Radwany Formation in the Gulf of Suez region has been newly identified as a potential reservoir rock with a combination of depositional and diagenetic processes creating various porosity types. Petrophysical evaluations and geochemical analysis have indicated the presence of unconventional and conventional hydrocarbon resources in this formation, particularly in the basal part, making it a valuable area for exploration. The study also highlights the importance of understanding the link between sediment microfacies and petrophysical parameters for predicting hydrocarbon potential in the area.

Modeling the Depositional Environment of the Sandstone Reservoir in the Middle Miocene Sidri Member, Badri Field, Gulf of Suez Basin, Egypt: Integration of Gamma-Ray Log Patterns and Petrographic Characteristics of Lithology

Ahmed E. Radwan

Summary: Understanding the depositional setting of siliciclastics reservoir is essential for exploration and development of hydrocarbon reservoirs. In this study, the absence of core samples in the middle Miocene Sidri Member in the Badri field was addressed by reconstructing its depositional settings using well logging patterns and petrographic characterization. The results indicated a diverse lithofacies, dominant porosity types, and three electrofacies that correspond to different depositional settings, providing valuable insights for similar hydrocarbon reservoirs lacking core samples.

Assessment of pore pressure, wellbore failure and reservoir stability in the Gabo field, Niger Delta, Nigeria - Implications for drilling and reservoir management

Okechukwu Ebuka Agbasi et al.

Summary: This study investigates a 3400m thick Tertiary succession in the Niger Delta, presenting a geomechanical model to address pore pressure, borehole stability, and fault slip potential attributes. Different pressure gradients in various reservoirs were found, and optimal mud weight design was identified as a key factor in preventing wellbore issues.

Geomechanical modeling using the depth-of-damage approach to achieve successful underbalanced drilling in the Gulf of Suez rift basin

Wael K. Abdelghany et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that in the oil and gas reservoirs of the Gulf of Suez, underbalanced drilling can be conducted more effectively using the depth-of-damage approach rather than the previously used breakout-width-failure concept, which provided misleading results. This new method can enhance production performance and ensure the safety of the drilling process.

Implementation of Rock Typing on Waterflooding Process During Secondary Recovery in Oil Reservoirs: A Case Study, El Morgan Oil Field, Gulf of Suez, Egypt

Ahmed E. Radwan et al.

Summary: Waterflooding is a common method in the oil and gas industry, but can suffer from technical failures and inefficiencies. Understanding geology, reservoir characteristics, rock typing, hydraulic flow units, and production data is essential to analyze the reasons and mechanisms of water injection failure.

Petrographic and diagenetic study of siliciclastic Jurassic sediments from the northeastern margin of Africa: Implication for reservoir quality

Ahmed A. Kassem et al.

Summary: The study in northeastern Egypt analyzed Jurassic facies in 130 thin sections to understand diagenetic history and reservoir quality. The study identified depositional environment, factors controlling reservoir characteristics, and diagenetic processes. The analysis provided insights into the reservoir architecture and proposed a model for reservoir characterization and discrimination in the Jurassic subsurface.
