Genetically predicted iron status and life expectancy

Iyas Daghlas et al.

Summary: The study using Mendelian randomization revealed a detrimental effect of genetically proxied higher iron status on life expectancy, including reducing parental lifespan and decreasing the odds of survival to the age of 90. Further investigation on the clinical implications of the findings, especially in individuals with normal iron status, is warranted.
