Effects of growth conditions and cultivability on the content of cyclitols inMedicago sativa

I. A. Ratiu et al.

Summary: Cyclitols are bioactive secondary metabolites found in plants, with their accumulation being directly linked to abiotic stress factors. This study examined the impact of various abiotic factors, including plant elicitation and cultivation in different European regions, on cyclitol production in alfalfa. Results showed that NaCl elicitation increased cyclitol quantity, while AgNO3 and Zn(NO3)2 generally decreased it. Additionally, samples harvested in August had double the amount of cyclitols compared to those in May, linked to sunshine duration and low humidity. Factors such as soil type, salinity, humidity levels, sunny days, and plant elicitation were all found to play a role in cyclitol production in alfalfa.

Effects of 24-epibrassinolide on plant growth, antioxidants defense system, and endogenous hormones in two wheat varieties under drought stress

Imran Khan et al.

Summary: Research on the foliar application of a biochemical substance 24-epibrassinolide (EBL) to improve wheat growth under drought stress showed significant enhancement in plant growth, photosynthesis, gas exchange parameters, photosynthetic pigment content, reduction in oxidative damage, and increased activity of antioxidant enzymes. The results indicate that EBL plays a crucial role in improving wheat growth, biomass, and yield under drought conditions, with further field investigations needed for dosage recommendations.

Multi-Omics Revealed Molecular Mechanisms Underlying Guard Cell Systemic Acquired Resistance

Lisa David et al.

Summary: Systemic Acquired Resistance (SAR) enhances plant immunity against pathogens, with guard cell response playing a key role. Prior exposure to pathogenic bacteria alters stomatal response in plants, leading to reduced bacterial levels in leaves. SAR activation of guard cells involves specific molecular components that include reactive oxygen species and fatty acid signaling, potentially influencing stomatal immune responses.

Can biostimulants be used tomitigate the effect of anthropogenic climate change on agriculture? It is time to respond

Daniele Del Buono

Summary: Anthropogenic climate change poses challenges to agricultural systems due to their vulnerability to extreme events. With a predicted global population increase in the near future, there will be heightened demand for food, raising concerns about natural resource usage and availability. Urgent implementation of sustainable measures is needed to improve crop yield and quality in the face of climate change.

A Review of Remote Sensing Challenges for Food Security with Respect to Salinity and Drought Threats

Wen Wen et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the current ability of remote sensing to detect the impact of drought and salinity stress on vegetation indices and crop trait responses. VIs are found to be insufficiently accurate, while plant functional traits show promise in monitoring the effects of stresses on crop health. Further research is needed to fully realize this potential.

Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture and Its Mitigation Strategies: A Review

Gurdeep Singh Malhi et al.

Summary: Climate change, driven by greenhouse gas emissions, poses a global threat to food and nutritional security. Despite the positive effects of increased CO2 concentration on plant growth and productivity, the rising temperatures have negative impacts on crop activities, pest infestation, and weed flora. Mitigation strategies are necessary to address the economic impact of climate change on agriculture.
