Summary: Alternative splicing of genes in the central nervous system is common and generates unique transcript or protein isoforms with distinct functions. Learning and memory genes have evolved complex transcriptional mechanisms to respond to environmental stimuli. BDNF, as an important model gene, displays various transcriptional mechanisms in response to external stimuli, which have implications for understanding the origins of neurological disorders associated with reduced BDNF function.
