Does Magnetic Resonance Imaging Grading Correlate With Return to Sports After Bone Stress Injuries? A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

Tim Hoenig et al.

Summary: According to the systematic review, higher MRI grading is associated with an increased time to return to sports after bone stress injuries. Different locations of injury require individually adapted rehabilitation regimens, with over 90% of athletes successfully returning to sports.

Multifactorial Determinants of Running Injury Locations in 550 Injured Recreational Runners

Karsten Hollander et al.

Summary: This study aimed to compare biomechanical, anthropometric, and demographic injury risk factors among injured recreational runners. The results showed that sex, foot strike pattern, and peak vertical ground reaction force were the only factors that distinguished specific injury locations from the remaining injury locations.

Sex-Specific Differences in Running Injuries: A Systematic Review with Meta-Analysis and Meta-Regression

Karsten Hollander et al.

Summary: The overall injury rates between female and male runners showed no significant differences, but female runners were more prone to bone stress injuries while male runners had a higher risk of Achilles tendinopathies. Additionally, female runners had a higher risk of injury when competing in distances of 10 km or shorter.

Youth running consensus statement: minimising risk of injury and illness in youth runners

Brian J. Krabak et al.

Summary: Despite the popularity of running as a sport for children worldwide, there is limited research on its impact on injury and illness, especially for preadolescent and pubescent athletes. Current guidelines on risk factors and suitable running distances for youth runners are opinion based. The International Committee Consensus Work Group aims to evaluate the current science, identify knowledge gaps, categorize risk factors, and provide recommendations for training, nutrition, and participation for youth runners.
