Modelling the permanent deformation of unbound granular materials in pavements

Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman et al.

Summary: This study modified a permanent deformation (PD) model for unbound granular materials (UGMs) in pavements to better suit field conditions and software applications. The model was calibrated and validated using multi-stage repeated load triaxial tests for UGMs with different moisture contents, and showed improved predictions compared to existing models.

Modelling the response of large-size subbase materials tested under varying moisture conditions in a heavy vehicle simulator

Marit Fladvad et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of moisture and gradation on pavement response by conducting an instrumented accelerated pavement test on two thin flexible pavement structures with different subbase materials. The study finds that increased groundwater level leads to a substantial increase in rutting on the pavement.

Large-size aggregates for road construction-a review of standard specifications and test methods

Marit Fladvad et al.

Summary: Standard specifications and test methods for large-size road construction aggregates need better international standardization, as current standards do not cover all challenges related to the description and quality assessment of construction aggregates. Quality assessment, particularly for large-size aggregates, is a challenge that requires improvement by international standards.

Experimental evaluation of the permanent strains of open-graded aggregate materials

Tan Hung Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the permanent strain of open-graded aggregate materials using the multi-stage repeated-load triaxial test. Results showed that specimens with gradation between two others have the highest resistance to permanent strain, and the material parameters of open-graded aggregates did not vary significantly based on aggregate sizes. Additionally, open-graded aggregate materials were found to be more dependent on bulk stress than deviator stress.
