The financial sector expansion effect on renewable electricity production: case of the BRICS countries

Aliya Zhakanova Isiksal

Summary: This research examines the impact of financial expansion index on renewable electricity production in BRICS countries from 1995 to 2015. The empirical results suggest a positive influence of financial expansion index on renewable electricity production, especially when considering non-hydropower renewable electricity. Causality tests show one-way causalities running from financial expansion to hydroelectricity and total sustainable electricity production.
