Desalination of brackish water by gelatin-coated magnetite nanoparticles as a novel draw solute in forward osmosis process

Summary: This study presents the optimization of gelatin-coated magnetite nanoparticles synthesis and their application as a draw solute in forward osmosis process. The use of Persicaria bistorta root extract as a crosslinker showed efficiency in achieving the highest osmotic pressure. The experiments confirmed the potential of gelatin-MNPs as a promising draw solution in the FO process, especially when using Persicaria bistorta root extract as the crosslinker.
