Bartonella spp. in Small Mammals and Their Fleas in Differently Structured Habitats From Germany

Anna Obiegala et al.

Summary: A study was conducted in Germany to investigate the flea communities on small mammals from differently structured sites and their prevalence of Bartonella spp. It was found that a high diversity of flea species on small mammals was present, with a significant prevalence of Bartonella species in both fleas and their mammalian hosts, posing a potential risk for transmission to companion animals and humans, especially in urban areas.
