Extraction of natural colourants from Mussaenda hybrid (M. philippica x M. luteola), Carissa carandas L. & Syzygium cumini L. for textile colouration

Tintu Jose Manicketh et al.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the potential of natural colorants from plants in textile dyeing. Different natural dyes extracted from plants were applied on cotton, silk, and polyester yarns with and without mordants, showing enhanced color strength values with the addition of mordants. The fastness properties of the dyed yarns were found to be good, indicating that the plants used could be a promising source of natural colorants.

Novel ursane-type triterpene from the fresh leaves ofCarissa carandasand evaluation of cytotoxicity

Zarina Bano et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel ursolic acid derivative was isolated from the leaves of Carissa carandas, along with five known compounds. Two of the compounds were isolated for the first time from this genus. The new compound showed good activity against oral cancer and moderate activity against lung cancer, without any cytotoxicity against normal cell lines.
