Summary: This study explores the use of different acids in tailoring the performance of bio-based cationic waterborne polyurethanes, resulting in a range of polyurethane films with properties ranging from flexible elastomers to tough plastics. By tuning hydrogen bonding strength, the resulting polyurethane films exhibit enhanced multi-functionality, including UV absorption, anticorrosion properties, and long-term antibacterial performance.
