This study experimentally and via simulations studied the sound transmission loss of double-layered structure plates, presenting an experimental method and data processing technique for determining the STL. Different types of DSPs with varying features and different damping materials were designed and manufactured, with a proposed calculation model for the STL compared with experimental data to validate the model. The analytical methods and conclusions presented are expected to be beneficial for the design and optimization of the STL of DSPs.
In this study, sound transmission loss (STL) of double-layered structure plates (DSPs) is studied experimentally and via simulations. An experimental method and a data processing technique for determining the STL are presented. Four DSPs with varying reinforcing plate heights and features such as ribs and holes as well as six DSPs with different types of pasted damping materials are designed and manufactured; the sound insulation performance of the DSPs is investigated experimentally. Furthermore, a calculation model for the STL of a DSP is proposed and the calculated STL is compared with experimental data, which validates the proposed model. The presented analytical methods and conclusions are expected to be useful for the design and optimization of the STL of DSPs.
