Adsorption of sulfonamides on biochars derived from waste residues and its mechanism

Yuxing Fan et al.

Summary: The study found that biochar derived from waste residues showed different adsorption performances under different conditions, with RB being the preferred biochar due to its higher concentration of oxygen functional groups. The mechanisms of sulfonamides adsorption onto biochars mainly involved pi-pi electron donor acceptor interactions and hydrogen bonds.

A durable superwetting clusters-inlayed mesh with high efficiency and flux for emulsion separation

Jihao Zuo et al.

Summary: The superwetting copper mesh, embedded with PDA/PEI@CNTs-NH2 clusters, demonstrated high separation efficiency and flux for anionic surfactant-stabilized oil-in-water emulsions, achieving over 99.5% separation efficiency and a flux as high as 3946.3 L m(2) h(-1) driven solely by gravity. The mesh's strong demulsification ability and high permeation flux are attributed to the charge-screening effect of-NH3+ and size sieving effect of optimized pore size, making it promising for sustainable separation of highly stabilized oil/water emulsions.

Caffeic acid polymer rapidly modified sponge with excellent anti-oil-adhesion property and efficient separation of oil-in-water emulsions

Huicai Wang et al.

Summary: This study reports a technology that utilizes oxidants and diamines to promote the polymerization of caffeic acid, leading to the preparation of a superhydrophilic melamine sponge with excellent properties. By employing silica nanoparticles to enhance roughness, the sponge showed high efficiency in emulsion separation and prevention of oil contamination, providing a promising method for treating challenging emulsified wastewater.

Adsorption of Pb(II) and Cd(II) by magnetic activated carbon and its mechanism

Zhen Zhang et al.

Summary: Magnetized activated carbons (MAC) prepared from rape straw powder showed high adsorption capacities for Pb(II) and Cd(II) due to surface active points, with adsorption behavior conforming to the Freundlich model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Thermodynamic parameters indicated spontaneous and endothermic reactions. Adjusting the pH of the solution could enhance adsorption capacity, but competitive adsorption occurred in the presence of high-valent ions. Adsorption mechanisms included electrostatic attraction, surface complexation, and co-precipitation. The MAC material showed potential for heavy metal ion removal from aqueous solutions.
