The study on polycrystalline NdFe0.5Mn0.5O3 revealed complex magnetothermal properties, including peak magnetic entropy change at specific temperatures and magnetic fields, as well as distinctive features of magnetic heat capacity at different temperatures.
The bulk magnetization, magnetocaloric effect, and heat capacity of polycrystalline NdFe0.5Mn0.5O3 have been studied in the temperature range of 1.5-300K. The magnetic entropy change ( Delta S M ) shows a peak near 7K at 100kOe with a value of similar to 7.22Jkg(-1)K(-1). Another magnetic entropy change is also observed between 0 and 40kOe near the spin reorientation region of Fe3+/Mn3+ ions (similar to 45K), wherein the entropy change gets suppressed with increasing field. The magnetic heat capacity shows a broad hump near the Neel temperature (similar to 250K). Around 5K, a step-like feature in heat capacity due to the Schottky effect is observed which is associated with the crystal field effects in Nd3+ ions.
