Petrophysically and geologically guided multi-physics inversion using a dynamic Gaussian mixture model

Thibaut Astic et al.

Summary: This paper extends a framework for jointly inverting multiple geophysical data sets that depend on multiple physical properties, using petrophysical and geological information to couple geophysical surveys. The advancements in univariate to multivariate analysis of petrophysical data and simultaneous inversion of multiple surveys are crucial for this approach. The effectiveness of the framework is demonstrated by successfully differentiating between different geological facies in a kimberlite deposit through multi-physics inversions.

Time-series clustering approaches for subsurface zonation and hydrofacies detection using a real time-lapse electrical resistivity dataset

Damien Delforge et al.

Summary: The study focused on the application of electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) using time-series clustering to detect geological or hydrological structures in the shallow subsurface. Results showed that different clustering algorithms provided similar spatial patterns on standardized data, but some clusters were spatially split with different geological units. Applying a spatial constraint in clustering of standardized data increased the number of clusters to retrieve spatially tied clusters.
