The application of an absorbent-amended microalgal-bacterial system for enhancing hydrothermal liquefaction wastewater treatment and resource recovery

Summary: This study improved pollutant removal and biomass accumulation in microalgal-bacterial systems by reducing the toxicity of hydrothermal liquification wastewater (HTLWW) using zeolite and granular-activated carbon (GAC). The combination of zeolite and GAC maximized wastewater treatment efficiency while ensuring biomass yield. Addition of GAC and zeolite significantly enhanced removal of soluble chemical oxygen demand (SCOD) and ammonium (NH4+), as well as total suspended biomass (TSB) accumulation.
