Ecotoxicity profile of heavily contaminated surface water of two rivers in Tunisia

Nosra Methneni et al.

Summary: This study focused on assessing water quality of Khniss and Hamdoun rivers in Tunisia, which are impacted by domestic and textile wastewater loaded with contaminants. The rivers were found to exceed Tunisian standards for COD and TSS, and contained various metals and textile dyes. The presence of metals and textile disperse dyes were associated with ecotoxicological effects in the river waters, posing a threat to aquatic ecosystems and human health.
