Experimental study on thermal and flow characteristics of metal foam heat pipe radiator

Limei Shen et al.

Summary: The introduction of metal foam in heat pipe radiators significantly reduces overall thermal resistance and improves performance, especially when advanced connecting technology is adopted. The study also finds that the comprehensive performance of metal foam heat pipe radiators is much better than traditional finned heat pipe radiators, especially at Re < 13000. The fitting empirical equations of friction factor are provided for further theoretical analysis and numerical calculation.

Metal foam/PCM melting evolution analysis: Orientation and morphology effects

Marcello Iasiello et al.

Summary: This study investigates the thermal conductivity performance of phase change materials and aluminum foams under different conditions, showing good agreement between experiments and numerical simulations. The results indicate that reducing porosity significantly reduces melting time, while PPI and orientation changes have minimal effects on the melting front.

Influence of aspect ratios for a tilted cavity on the melting heat transfer of phase change materials embedded in metal foam

Xiaohu Yang et al.

Summary: Numerical models and a visualization test-bed were utilized to investigate transient free convection and heat transfer in porous foams with varying aspect ratios in cavities. Results show that a smaller aspect ratio leads to significantly higher temperature uniformity and response compared to a larger aspect ratio.

Natural heat exchange in inhomogeneous porous medium using linear and quadratic porosity distribution

Qingang Xiong et al.

Summary: Natural convection in a closed square porous enclosure with inhomogeneous porosity distribution was studied numerically, revealing significant changes in flow and temperature fields depending on the porosity distribution form, resulting in a decrease in the Nusselt number. Different porosity distribution functions caused varied effects on the Nusselt number, with linear porosity distribution along the x-axis showing the largest reduction and quadratic porosity distribution along the y-axis showing the smallest.
