Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound ameliorates depression-like behaviors in a rat model of chronic unpredictable stress

Jinniu Zhang et al.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the feasibility and potential mechanisms of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) as a treatment for depression in rats with depression-like features. LIPUS treatment for four weeks improved depression-like behaviors and reversed molecular effects of chronic unpredictable stress, while showing no gross tissue damage. The findings suggest that chronic LIPUS stimulation may enhance BDNF/ERK/mTORC1 signaling in the prefrontal cortex and could be a promising noninvasive neuromodulation tool for treating depression.
