Recent progress in homogeneous light-driven hydrogen evolution using first-row transition metal catalysts

Agostina Mazzeo et al.

Summary: Researchers focus on designing, preparing, and testing efficient catalytic systems based on first-row transition metals for homogeneous light-driven hydrogen evolution. Hundreds of molecular HER photocatalysts containing earth-abundant metals and various ligands have been reported and tested recently, aiming to contribute to the development of efficient solar energy devices for H2 generation as a green fuel. This work aims to update the community on the latest advances in this rapidly growing field, with a focus on systems reported between 2016 and 2020.
