This study successfully obtained infrared and visible transparent MgO ceramics through spark plasma sintering, using LiF decorated MgO nanoparticles. The prepared MgO?LiF nanocomposites showed higher transmittance under specific conditions.
In this study, infrared (IR) and visible transparent MgO ceramics were obtained by spark plasma sintering of insitu synthesized of LiF decorated MgO nanoparticles (MgO?LiF nanocomposite). Lithium acetate (LiAC), trifluoroacetic acid (TFA), oleic acid (OA), and absolute ethanol were used as in-situ synthesis of the LiF phase covered on MgO nanoparticles. TFA/Li (AC) mole ratio, pH, and calcination temperature were changed to obtain the MgO?LiF nanocomposite. The results revealed that with Li (AC)/TFA = 1.5:0.5 and pH = 6 at the calcination temperature of 700 ?C, in situ MgO?LiF nanocomposites were well prepared. The SPSed MgO covered with a 0.5% LiF sample showed 30% more visible and IR transmittance than pure MgO bodies sintered at 1100 ?C for 10 min.
