THz ESR experiments are extensively used to study the spin sizes, anisotropies, symmetries, exchange couplings, and mixings among different states of magnetic molecules, key parameters to control the functionality of spins and their quantum mechanical behaviors.
Varieties of magnetic molecules have been developed in decades to create novel functional magnetic materials and one of the goals is the creation of giant spin beyond the spins found in natural elements. THz ESR-experiments have been intensively used to study these spins because of the capability to determine of the spin sizes, anisotropies, symmetries, exchange couplings, and mixings among different states. These parameters are keys to control the functionality of the spins and their quantum mechanical behaviors. This review introduces examples of applications of THz ESR to determine these essential parameters.
