In this study, Metakaolin-based geopolymers with different contents of MS expansive agents were prepared and tested, and it was found that MKG with 4% MS-3 exhibited the best bond properties. The expansive agents significantly improved the expansion properties of the material and reduced the tensile stress at the interface, leading to an enhancement in bond properties between MKG and cement stone.
Metakaolin-based geopolymers (MKGs) containing different contents of MS expansive agents (EAs) were prepared by alkali activation. Different mechanical testing methods for differently shaped samples were used to evaluate the bond properties of the MKGs. A cement substrate with a circular hole in the middle was used as a permeability test specimen to assess bond by checking the bond appearance and testing the permeability. According to the results of the mechanical properties and penetration tests, the MKG with 4% MS-3 exhibited the best bond properties. The EAs significantly improved the expansion properties and reduced the tensile stress at the interface; these were the main reasons for the improvement in bond properties between the MKG and cement stone. Favourable bond property is an important basis for MKG as an inorganic crack repair material.
