Growth of vertical graphene materials by an inductively coupled plasma with solid-state carbon sources

Summary: The article introduces a novel plasma assisted thin-film growth method for the free-standing few-layer graphene-based hierarchy complex material. The method uses conventional solid-state carbon materials instead of hydrocarbon and hydrogen gases as precursor feedstocks to grow vertical graphene. Real-time optical emission spectra analysis shows that C-2 species plays a key role in the self-organized growth of vertical graphene, making the approach easier, safer, and more economical for mass production of VG compared to using hydrocarbon and hydrogen gases.
