Responding to Ecosystem Transformation: Resist, Accept, or Direct?

Laura M. Thompson et al.

Summary: Ecosystem transformation involves the emergence of a self-organizing, self-sustaining system that deviates from prior structure and function. Fish and wildlife managers can choose to resist change, accept transformation, or direct change to a future ecosystem configuration. This suite of management strategies can be implemented using a structured approach of learning and adapting as ecosystems change.

Cross-jurisdictional insights from forest practitioners on novel climate-adaptive options for Canada's forests

Guillaume Peterson St-Laurent et al.

Summary: Forest practitioners play a crucial role in developing and implementing novel interventions to address climate change, with widespread support for assisted migration (AM) as a climate-adaptive reforestation option. The central challenges in implementing AM are perceived to be technical, with the forest sector's capacity and willingness, as well as public opinion, being secondary concerns. Our findings suggest that forest practitioners are embracing new reforestation practices in response to the changing realities of climate change.
