Global silicate weathering flux overestimated because of sediment-water cation exchange

Edward T. Tipper et al.

Summary: The presence of a reactive exchange pool in certain river systems increases the mobile cation flux significantly and leads to a substantial reduction in estimates of silicate weathering. This results in an overestimation of global silicate weathering fluxes by 12 to 28%, particularly in regions with high erosion and sediment loads.
