A bioinspired and hierarchically structured shape-memory material

Luca Cera et al.

Summary: The newly developed shape-memory material based on keratin responds to hydration, has high strength and biocompatibility, and is suitable for fiber spinning and 3D printing. By extracting keratin protofibrils from animal hair and applying shear stress, the self-assembly of this hierarchically structured material is achieved.

Characterization of Anisotropic Human Hair Keratin Scaffolds Fabricated via Directed Ice Templating

Zhitong Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, anisotropic human hair keratin scaffolds with aligned pores were successfully fabricated using a directed ice templating method, which significantly enhanced the tensile strength of the scaffolds. In vitro results demonstrated that these anisotropic scaffolds can support the adhesion, spreading, and proliferation of human dermal fibroblasts, holding promise as templates for soft tissue regeneration.
