Hot isostatic pressing of a near α-Ti alloy: Temperature optimization, microstructural evolution and mechanical performance evaluation

Chao Cai et al.

Summary: Hot isostatic pressing (HIP) has advantages in processing difficult-to-process materials like the near-alpha titanium alloy Ta15 for aerospace applications. This study analyzed the phase constitutions, microstructural evolution, and tensile properties of HIP Ta15 specimens at different temperatures compared to Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) counterparts. The results showed that HIP specimens at 500 degrees C exhibited higher tensile strength and ductility than SPS specimens, and had comparable high-temperature tensile properties to forged IMI 685 and better than sintered Ti60 parts.

Holistic sustainability assessment of hybrid Al-GnP-enriched nanofluids and textured tool in machining of Ti-6Al-4V alloy

Aqib Mashood Khan et al.

Summary: The study investigates the holistic sustainability of external turning of titanium alloy under different cutting environments, finding that hybrid machining process with Al-GnP nanoparticle-based MQL assistance is more environmentally and economically sustainable compared to conventional flood-assisted machining. Results show reduced specific cumulative energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and production costs in the sustainable hybrid machining process.

Cryogenic-LN2 and conventional emulsion assisted machining of hardened steel: Comparison from sustainability perspective

Aqib Mashood Khan et al.

Summary: The study compares the effects of emulsion cooling and sustainable Cryo-LN2 cooling on sustainable metrics in the external turning of hardened steel, finding that Cryo-LN2 outperforms emulsion cooling in terms of surface quality, energy consumption, and production cost. The findings encourage the metal processing industries to adopt sustainable techniques for machining processes.

An overview of inorganic particulate matter emission from coal/biomass/MSW combustion: Sampling and measurement, formation, distribution, inorganic composition and influencing factors

Wu Yang et al.

Summary: This paper systematically reviews the PM sampling and measurement methods, formation mechanisms, distribution, inorganic composition and the factors influencing PM emission during combustion of coal/biomass/MSW. Coarse particle emissions from coal combustion are generally higher than those from biomass, while ultrafine and fine particle emissions from biomass combustion are higher than those from coal. Particle emissions are related to various influencing factors such as solid fuel particle size, inherent ash content, mineral properties, binding form of inorganic elements, combustion parameters, and ash chemical composition.
