Suppression of innate immune signaling molecule, MAVS, reduces radiation-induced bystander effect

Rong Jia et al.

Summary: The MAVS protein located in the mitochondrial outer membrane is essential for inducing IFN-beta and IFN-stimulated gene expression in response to external stress. Our study showed that MAVS plays a crucial role in radiation-induced bystander effect (RIBE) and ROS is an important factor in RIBE through the MAVS pathway. MAVS may be a potential target for precise radiotherapy and radioprotection.
