Associations between COVID-19 related media consumption and symptoms of anxiety, depression and COVID-19 related fear in the general population in Germany

Antonia Bendau et al.

Summary: The study found that frequency, duration, and diversity of media exposure are positively associated with symptoms of depression, unspecific anxiety, and COVID-19 specific anxiety. Particularly, the usage of social media is linked with more pronounced psychological strain, and participants with pre-existing fears are particularly vulnerable to mental distress from excessive media consumption.
