Global direct nitrous oxide emissions from the bioenergy crop sugarcane (Saccharum spp. inter-specific hybrids)

Linsheng Yang et al.

Summary: A meta-analysis of global sugarcane field studies found that N2O emissions increase exponentially with nitrogen fertiliser rate, questioning the adequacy of the IPCC default EF value. N2O emissions and EFs did not vary significantly in tropics and sub-tropics, but the addition of organic amendments significantly increased emissions. However, using enhanced efficiency fertilisers led to a remarkable reduction in N2O emission and EF.
